  • Leadership Update | Important Initiative During COVID-19

The IT Nation Evolve3-301 peer group has come up with an important initiative that we want to run with as a broader community.

IT Services and Cybersecurity companies have made it possible for small and medium businesses (SMBs) to transition to work from home arrangements during the COVID-19 outbreak.  Our companies and others like us in our industry will play a critical role in a successful return to work campaign at some point in the future.  Unfortunately, as small and medium businesses look to contain costs during these difficult economic times, IT Services and Cybersecurity services are being cut or reduced.  These cost cutting moves will lead to a weakening of the overall security position of the United States business environment and will impact the ability for employees to successfully return to work in the future.

We would like you to contact your Congressmen and Senators immediately to ask that in future COVID-19 related funding bills, funds be eligible to be utilized to pay for IT Services (including but not limited to cloud-based infrastructure, VoIP telephony, NOC monitoring, mobile device management, backup, and Cybersecurity services) in a way similar to how they can be used to pay for other necessary utilities.  This will allow small and medium businesses (SMBs) to maintain a strong position while continuing to work from home and will also enable these companies to be in a strong position to eventually return to a more normal work environment.

Please use the links below to find the contact information for your Congressmen and Senators and send this message we crafted below to them.  We truly believe that we can make a difference here if we are all involved as a community.  As these discussions are happening very quickly, we are asking that you and members of your team reach out to your delegation by Monday, April 13th.  For this to be effective, we need the entire community to make our voices heard.

This is a North American effort, but we are sending it to the APAC and EMEA communities as well.  When and if similar funding is being formed, a similar effort may be appropriate in those geographies.

    Thank you,

Arlin Sorensen, Pete Sorensen, Brad Schow

    Dear Senator/Congressman/Congresswoman,

I’d first like to thank you for your recent efforts to support small businesses through the passing of the CARES Act.  As Congress considers the potential for additional support, I’d like to make you aware of an area that needs urgent attention for small and medium businesses.

These cost cutting moves will lead to a weakening of the overall cybersecurity position of the United States business environment and will impact the ability for employees to successfully return to work in the future.

In any future COVID-19 related relief bills, please ensure that support funds are eligible to be utilized to pay for IT Services (including but not limited to cloud-based infrastructure, VoIP telephony, NOC monitoring, mobile device management, backup, and Cybersecurity services) in a way similar to how they can be used to pay for other necessary utilities.  This will allow small and medium businesses (SMBs) to maintain a strong and secure position while continuing to work from home and will also enable these companies to be in a strong position to eventually return to a more normal work environment.

Thank you for your attention to this very important issue.

    Sincerely,
